Greater reliability and performance can be achieved by adding a 3rd storage device. Many customers who configure their server with 3 disks also request a RAID controller with RAID 4 or RAID 5 support, or RAID 0+1. Selecting a 3rd storage device requires the 4 drive bay chassis upgrade below.

Adding a 4th storage devices opens up the options of RAID6 or RAID10 drastically improving performance and reliability, as well as data availability. Selecting a 4th storage device requires a chassis with 4 drive bays.

Using a RAID controller card will increase disk IO, throughput, and reliability. Hardware RAID makes it fast and easy to replace a disk drive in case of failure, and also has a higher tolerance for failure, allowing your application to continue during a disk or storage device failure.

Selecting a chassis with a larger disk capacity is necessary in order to support RAID 5 or RAID 10. Using a chassis with removable drives bays such as the 4 bay chassises below enables hot-swap replacement of failed drives with no-downtime to your server. They allow for faster disks for IO intensive applications. For larger chassis which will hold 8, 10, or even 24 disks, please contact the sales team directly. The computational bandwidth of a 64bit system is much greater than that of a 32bit system. 64bit systems have become common for many years now and so we recommend 64bit for the best upgrade options in the future and highest processing speeds. Select 32bit if you are running older software which may be less stable or incompatible on newer 64bit systems.
